Soap Star Friday

Last Friday in the first ever Soap Star Friday I showed you, my fabulous readers, the delights of Danish TV soap 2900 Happieness. It was from 2007 so I thought it was only natural to take you back a bit, to a time when things were not quite so fabulous in Denmark. Introducing

Hvide Løgne aka White Lies

A show about, well how should I know, I didn't watch it. Oh, ok, I did a little research about it now but I honestly didn't watch it as I couldn't watch Channel 3 at the time. It's a show about life at, and around a small town hospital. It ran for 3 years and was hugely popular. You can clearly see why from the clip, right?

Actually, for a while I thought it was english too and heard some pretty strange things...

Maybe they like to share a spoon? They like to spoon?

Ahh. Your version makes a lot more sense than mine.

T-Birdy: You will, most likely, faint.

I was shocked when I saw it. But I may be overdramatising it. It's been ages since I've seen it, and I tuned into the channel where they showed it at that instant expecting something else.

Dinah: They aren't saying that. What they are saying is,

"Dine ord, de har sat sine spor" which means basically "your words have had an impact" I can't translate it word by word as it would make no sense.

Granted, I can't speak whatever language the theme song is in, but I swear one of the lines is "we have sex in a spoon and then share."

I've heard of The Idiots but haven't seen it because of that scene.

Will I faint?

Ha ha ha ha brilliant both of you!

T-Birdy: He also made "Idioterne" which directly translated would be The Idiots or something like that.

It would shock you to your very core as there is a hardcore porn scene in it. It's a bizarre movie.

No no no.

The kidney donor storyline was Coronation Street.

But then they find out that the person he is operating on is his long lost twin who also needs a new kidney, so the doctor gives him one of his.

In other news, the pretty young couple hit some sort of romantic disagreement all based on a misunderstanding.

Maybe because I had to watch The Kingdom with subtitles it took some of the edge away for me. I am the world's biggest scaredy cat, but I loved it.

Off to investigate Europa...

So you were a regular viewer?

The doctor drinks the bottle of wine and then gets paged to come to the hospital to perform emergency brain surgery but he's drunk and everything goes horribly, horribly wrong.

Not at all, if I was Australian I wouldn't know the difference either.

Oh I'd love to watch neighbours from the very start until now. That would be awesome. I never saw it, they showed that on Channel 3 too.

As for Lars Von Trier, he scares the bejezus out of me. I couldn't watch Riget. If you want to watch a dull movie, watch Europa *snores*

That looks so much like neighbours it's a little scary!

Is it completely culturally insensitive of me to admit that all I could when those people were talking was the Swedish chef from the Muppets?

And yes, I realise Sweden is not Denmark...

*sigh* I thought for a moment when you said it was about hospital that there would be echoes of Riget. Oh, I love you Lars Von Trier.

Wow - they all look like they're mainlining drugs from the hospital!

I don't know, I suppose it wouldn't be a soap without an evil brother or sister

Luv the theme song...

What, no midgets or witches or evil twins?
